A Broome man who chased his sister with an axe and brandished a knife at her has avoided a jail sentence.
Conan Lee appeared via video link from custody in Broome Magistrates Court on May 22, charged with seven counts of trespassing, criminal damage, being armed in a way that may cause fear and threatening to kill.
The court heard the 32-year-old pointed a knife at the victim on Christmas day last year after she took his phone, punching a hole in the wall in a fit of rage and escaping through a laundry door.
A few months later, he chased her with an axe, yelling at her “I’m going to kill you”.
Aboriginal Legal Service defence lawyer Kalvin Rajmano revealed Lee had a history of drug and alcohol abuse and frequents at a “trap house” where drug use occurs.
Magistrate Dean Potter handed Lee a seven-month intensive supervision order, facing nine months in prison if he breaches the order.
He was also fined $1500 for all seven charges and must complete 50 hours of community service work.
