INDIA V AUSTRALIA, FOURTH TEST, DAY TWO
SCORE: Australia 480, India 0-36
SUMMARY: Starting the day at 4-256, Australia batted for the entire session to extend their rare dominance with the bat on a tour full of tough pitches. Usman Khawaja, who brought up his century in the final over on day one, was on a mission with allrounder Cameron Green at the crease. Khawaja made an epic 180 from 422 balls in an innings that lasted 10 hours. Australia’s tail wagged for the first time in the series, before India batted for 10 overs without loss to end the day.
MAN OF THE MOMENT: In his 20th Test, Green broke through for his maiden Test century with an innings full of stunning drives. He combined with Khawaja for a 208-run stand.
KEY MOMENT: Despite being in the field for two days, India must have gained some confidence for their innings while watching tailenders Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy make easy runs in Australia’s innings. Murphy had made just five runs combined for the series ahead of this Test but finished with a first-class best of 41.
STAT OF THE DAY: Australia made their highest Test total in India since scoring 557 in Delhi in 2008.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: “These are once-in-a-generation cricketers you are talking about. I expect Cameron Green to be a wonderful cricketer down the line.” – Star India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Green.
