Rain has continued to fall in the upper North Island overnight and an orange warning is in place for parts of Bay of Plenty.

Overnight 10mm to 14mm of rain fell across parts of the Bay of Plenty. Auckland had some reprieve with less than 10mm of rain falling in the city, and 5mm-15mm throughout Northland.

There has been a minor slip in Albany on the North Shore.

Further south, Fire and Emergency said six houses were evacuated in Kopu Tauaki Bay, in the Coromandel, after a slip blocked a stream.

With several highways severely damaged, Waka Kotahi is urging people to reconsider long weekend plans and to check the latest information on road closures and restrictions before starting their journey.

The Department of Conservation and the Mountain Safety Council are urging people to stay away from flooded and rain-impacted tracks and parks during Waitangi weekend.

Efforts will continue throughout the long weekend to clean up Tāmaki Makaurau’s storm-damaged roads.

More than 400 road maintenance crew members were out across the region on Thursday working to clear slips, repair flood damage and reopen roads.

Meanwhile, in the South Island there was been heavy rain across the West Coast overnight.

MetService says the warm, moisture laden mass that is hanging over the country will start to clear at the weekend and conditions in the North Island should be much drier and cooler by early next week.
