A Melbourne man is fighting for life in hospital after he was found on a nature strip among rubbish bins following a motorbike accident on Sunday night.

Witnesses found the 36-year-old man where he had “come to rest” after being thrown from his bike, a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.

The rider was approaching the intersection of Ti Tree Crescent and Centenary St in Seaford just after 10pm when he fell from his bike, police said.

He was taken to hospital with suspected life-threatening injuries.

“At this stage it is unclear why the rider fell; however, police believe the rider was travelling at speed just prior to the crash,” the spokeswoman said.

“Inquiries in relation to the bike have revealed it was bearing a false number plate.”

Police have appealed for any witnesses or dashcam owners to come forward and assist with their inquiries.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit an online report.
