Live Covid-19 updates: Auckland heads to level 3, northern Waikato in lockdown

More than half the Waikato community of Mangatangi turned up at a local marae yesterday for Covid-19 tests to find out if there are any more cases of the coronavirus.

Northern parts of the region are now in a “bespoke” lockdown until midnight on Friday after three family members of a man bailed to the home from Auckland tested positive.

The health provider co-ordinating testing expects another busy day today.

Auckland heads to to alert level 3 tomorrow for at least two weeks, and schools in the region are preparing to reopen for some students.

At alert level 3, schools reopen for pupils under 14 whose parents or caregivers must go to work and have no other childcare options.

Principals have told RNZ most schools are expecting few children to return, but some primary schools are forecasting as many as 60 students.
