Paris: Seven males went on trial on Tuesday in Paris for the spectacular 2014 assault on a Saudi prince’s convoy that noticed them make off with bundles of money, jewelry and diplomatic papers.

Abdul Aziz Bin Fahd, the youngest son of the previous King Fahd, left his suite on the plush George V lodge – owned by a fellow prince, Alwaleed bin Talal – within the night of August 17, heading to Le Bourget airport north of Paris.

He was later adopted by his official motorcade of round a dozen automobiles led by a Mercedes Viano van, which was compelled to a halt by two stolen BMWs simply because it entered the entry ramp for the motorway resulting in the airport.

In a heist worthy of a Hollywood motion scene, armed males sporting balaclavas stormed and hijacked the Mercedes, threw out its passengers and drove off. No pictures have been fired and no person was harmed.

The prince himself was already airborne because the heist unfolded, headed for Ibiza in Spain, Le Parisien each day reported.

The stolen loot included 250,000 euros ($300,000 at present charges) in money, one other $300,000 in money, luxurious watches and Saudi diplomatic paperwork.

Investigators suspected the assailants had inside assist since they appeared to know precisely which automobile to focus on within the theft.

A seventh suspect was arrested in 2017.
